About the Tour de France
The Tour de France is the world's most famous cycle race, first held in 1903. It is a three-week stage race that covers around 3,500 kilometres across France and sometimes neighbouring countries, with 21 stages, flat sprints, time trials and mountain finishes in the Alps and Pyrenees. The overall leader wears the yellow jersey, with separate jerseys for the best sprinter, climber and young rider. The opening stage, known as the Grand Départ, is held in a different host city each year and has been staged in the UK several times. Check the organisers' official route announcement for confirmed stage dates.
