Christmas Day falls on 25 December every year and is a bank holiday throughout the UK. In the weeks beforehand many households follow an Advent calendar, with the first door opened on 1 December, and the last posting dates for Christmas cards and parcels usually land in the middle of the month, so it pays to check Royal Mail's published dates. The big planning jobs — ordering a turkey or alternative, booking travel, and buying gifts early enough to avoid delivery delays — are easier when you can see exactly how many days remain. If you are travelling, remember that rail and bus services are reduced or suspended on 25 and 26 December.
