How to use the Remove Line Breaks
Modes explained
Single line: every line break becomes a single space. Keep paragraphs: double-spaced paragraph breaks survive (one blank line stays). Strip all: line breaks are removed without adding spaces — useful for fixing words split across lines. Collapse blank lines: multiple blank lines collapsed to a single blank line.
Common uses
Cleaning text copied from PDFs (which often has random line breaks mid-sentence), reformatting word-wrapped emails, prepping text for CSV cells, and fixing texts where lines wrap at 72 or 80 characters.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between removing line breaks and removing paragraph breaks?
A line break is any newline character, including those that wrap text mid-sentence when you copy it from a PDF or email. A paragraph break is a blank line between blocks of text. Use the keep-paragraphs option to join broken lines but preserve paragraph spacing, or strip everything to produce one continuous line.
Why does text copied from a PDF have extra line breaks?
PDFs store text as positioned lines rather than flowing paragraphs, so copying often inserts a hard line break at the end of every visual line. Removing those breaks restores normal flowing text that wraps to your layout.
Will removing line breaks join words together?
No. The tool replaces each line break with a single space so the last word of one line and the first word of the next stay separate. Hyphenated words split across lines may need a manual check.
