Why are UK Year numbers one higher than US Grades?
UK Year 1 (age 5-6) is roughly equivalent to US Kindergarten, and Year 2 to Grade 1, because the UK counts Reception (age 4-5) as the first school year. So for any given age, the UK Year number is one higher than the US Grade.
