How to use the IP Validator
IPv4 vs IPv6
IPv4 addresses use 4 octets (0–255) separated by dots: 192.168.1.1. IPv6 uses 8 groups of 4 hex digits separated by colons: 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334. IPv6 can be abbreviated by removing leading zeros and using :: for consecutive zero groups.
Private vs public IP ranges
Private ranges (not routed on internet): 10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12, 192.168.0.0/16. Loopback: 127.0.0.0/8. Link-local: 169.254.0.0/16. Everything else is public. Your router uses NAT to translate between your private home network and the public internet.
