How to use
Sleep cycles
A full sleep cycle is approximately 90 minutes, cycling through light sleep, deep sleep (NREM) and REM (dream) sleep. Most people complete 4–6 cycles per night. Waking during deep sleep leaves you feeling groggy — waking at the end of a cycle feels more natural and refreshing.
How many cycles?
5–6 cycles (7.5–9 hours) is ideal for most adults. 4 cycles (6 hours) is a minimum for most people. Less than 4 cycles impairs cognitive function. The NHS recommends 7–9 hours for adults. Teenagers need 8–10 hours, children even more.
