Frequently asked questions

Which tax year does the calculator use?

It uses 2026-27 income tax bands and employee National Insurance. England, Wales and Northern Ireland use a £12,570 personal allowance and 20%, 40% and 45% rates; Scotland has its own income tax bands.

Does it include student loan or pension deductions?

No. It estimates income tax and National Insurance only. Student loan repayments, pension contributions and tax codes will change your actual take-home pay.

Why is my payslip different?

Tax codes, benefits in kind, salary sacrifice and pension arrangements all alter the amount deducted. Use this tool as an estimate and check HMRC or your payslip for exact figures.
